Trophied

Trophied

Inspired by a combination of the trophy industry and my love of African wildlife. After working up a life-sized Grant’s gazelle for a bronze commission, I laid water-based clay in the mold to give form to the ceramic slabs. I re-constructed the fired fragments that organically reveal the inside of the form thanks to the way distortion occurs in the drying process. This figure is painted with Acrylic paints, joined by waxed linen which was also used to bind together the dried grass reeds that make the horns. The item showed here is sold but an edition is available. Due to the approach used there will be unique variations in each piece including different found materials and color approaches added to the figure in future expressions.
