Anima

Inspired by my long relationship with wild doe. I’ve meditated in nature and had deer walk right past me as if I wasn’t there or stop to smell me and keep walking. When I was young I felt the essence of the deer alive within me. Over the years I’ve helped a few injured deer and watched them for countless hours. In Chinese cosmology Yin represents the receptive aspects of life. Doe embody receptive aspects in their strength of innocence and quiet, feminine energy. This contained individual is the first in a new series. She was constructed over a simplified newspaper armature in an extremely loose manner. My intention is to handle the clay as little as possible to get a raw, more primal approach to expression. The head was attached after firing and the interior and edges gold leafed.
