Burden

Hand built clay form cast in wax and hollowed out to reveal the vessel-like cavern within the torso. Life study of Bart the percheron I drove for three years on the historic streets of Philly. Bart was, like most of my subjects a great juxtaposition of intense scale, strength and gentleness. I thought often about humankind’s relationship to “the horse” throughout history and wanted to honor both the individual who labored on our streets and his kind who have given their lives for human advancement.
